PhD student position

Laboratory of Iron Homeostasis

Laboratory of Iron Homeostasis at the International Institute of Molecular and Cell Biology (IIMCB), Warsaw, headed by Dr. Katarzyna Mleczko - Sanecka, is looking for PhD student.

You will join the project entitled “Deciphering novel mechanisms that control iron sensing and iron accumulation in the liver”, which is carried out as the OPUS 2018/31/B/NZ4/03676 grant of the Polish National Science Centre. The project provides a unique opportunity to develop cutting-edge cell-based and in vivo (mouse) methodologies to better understand still elusive molecular mechanisms that sense iron levels in the body. Specifically, we aim to elucidate how iron signals regulate bone morphogenetic protein 6 (BMP6), a key iron-sensing cytokine produced by the liver sinusoidal endothelial cells (LSECs).

As a PhD student
you will comprehensively study the regulatory mechanisms that control Bmp6 in  LSECs, you will characterize the process of intercellular communication between LSECs and hepatocytes that may be critical for the Bmp6 transcriptional control, and you will test our key findings in primary cells and in mice.

The PhD student
will be selected from candidates in an open competition, according to the procedure complying the rules for granting scholarships for young scientists in research projects funded by the National Science Centre (NCN Council Resolution No. 96/2016 dated October 27, 2016)  and the procedure complying with the rules of the European Charter for Researchers and the Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers as a part of HR Excellence in Research strategy
