10th anniversary of the National Science Centre

On September 9-10, the National Science Centre (NCN) is celebrating its 10th anniversary.

The NCN is a grant agency whose goal is to finance research projects in the field of basic research. Within 10 years, the NCN announced 200 competitions and awarded over 23 thousand grants in the amount of nearly PLN 11 billion. The NCN is also a coordinator of programs implemented in cooperation with other European funding institutions and together with the German Max Planck Society, NCN runs the DIOSCURI program, under which Centers of Scientific Excellence are established in Poland. One of them is the Laboratory of RNA-Protein Interactions - Dioscuri Centre at the International Institute of Molecular and Cell Biology in Warsaw (IIMCB), headed by Prof. Gracjan Michlewski.

IIMCB actively supports the work and activities of the NCN. Prof. Jacek Kuźnicki, Head of the Laboratory of Neurodegeneration at IIMCB is a member of the Council of the NCN since 2018, and in the 2020 he was appointed its new President.
The celebration of the Jubilee will begin on September 9 with a grand gala at the Juliusz Słowacki Theatre in Kraków. A jubilee conference will be held on September 10 – its mains topics will be: science during the pandemic and the policy of "open science". The discussion panel on Open Science will be led by Prof. Marta Miączyńska, Director of the International Institute of Molecular and Cell Biology in Warsaw.
