INCYPROnext - a new IIMCB project funded by the European Innovation Council

Proteins are important tools for many industrial, medical and biotechnological processes. However, a major limitation is the low stability of proteins under non-physiological conditions. There are thousands of proteins with great potential, but they cannot be exploited because of the lack of universally applicable stabilization technologies. The answer to this challenge is the INCYPROnext project, which is now entering the implementation phase. Today, June 13, the project's kick-off meeting will take place in Amsterdam.

The INCYPROnext project aims to provide a universal solution to this problem based on a radical new protein cyclization technology using three-armed chemical crosslinkers developed by Prof. Grossmann's group at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam and their spin-off company Incircular. In this Transition project awarded by the European Innovation Council, Incircular will collaborate with Prof. Bujnicki's team at the International Institute of Molecular and Cell Biology in Warsaw to improve the INCYPRO technology by incorporating computational prediction of protein stability and structural dynamics to make a rational selection of cyclization sites. The improved technology will be validated in a real operational environment to reach technology readiness level (TRL) 5.
