Dr. Urszula Białek-Wyrzykowska, PhD in life sciences, at the IIMCB since 2001, Deputy Director for Development since 2017. At the time of her employment Dr. Białek-Wyrzykowska was a successful scientist who gradually moved towards management in science. She is a co-author of research publications, patented invention and publications on zebrafish in research and education in Poland. Being a successful project manager, she created and headed the International Cooperation Unit that mainly dealt with international grants (FP5, FP6, FP7, Wellcome Trust, European Molecular Biology Organization, National Institutes of Health, Max Planck Society, Howard Hughes Medical Institute, Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft). She was a Project Manager of two IIMCB flagship projects funded under FP7 RegPot programme: HEALTH-PROT and FishMed. Dr. Białek-Wyrzykowska also has been involved in organization of various scientific events, including International FishMed Conferences on Zebrafish Research (2016, 2018), where she acted as a Chair of the Organizing Committee. Since 2018, she has been involved in the institutionalized education of doctoral students, being an IIMCB representative in the Programme Board of the Warsaw PhD School in Natural and BioMedical Sciences. In the period 01.10.2022-30.09.2024, she served as a co-chairperson of the Board. As a Deputy Director for Development, Dr. Białek-Wyrzykowska is responsible for cooperation with the International Advisory Board, confers with the Ministry of Education and Science with regard to evaluation and statutory funding, oversees core facilities and handles the development of science-related policies such as Research Integrity, Open Science, and Responsible Science. Starting from 2021, Dr. Białek-Wyrzykowska has been the IIMCB main representative at EU-LIFE – an alliance of leading independent European research centers in life sciences.
