is hiring a Core Facility (CF) Strategy & Business Manager

Are you passionate about new technologies in life sciences? Are you ready to make a meaningful impact by supporting core facility staff in building an overall core facility strategy including business models for the valorization of their services for internal and external clients? Are you interested to develop a structured collaboration between different core facilities as well as with the business? Does it sound appealing to you to expand your expertise by engaging in a training-in-residence at the Technology Unit (VIB Technologies) of our strategic partner Flanders Institute for Biotechnology (VIB) in Belgium? If yes, then you are the colleague we are looking for! 

The IIMCB hosts a vibrant, multinational community of scientists and is well connected internationally as exemplified by the composition of the IIMCB's International Advisory Board and the IIMCB's membership in EU-LIFE, an alliance of 15 top European research institutions. The IIMCB is on its way to unprecedented scientific and institutional growth, in part supported by the RACE project entitled: “RNA and Cell Biology - from Fundamental Research to Therapies” funded in the Teaming for Excellence programme under Horizon Europe. Through planned expansion to eventually 20 research groups involved in innovative translational projects in RNA biology and cell biology, we aim to become a unique Polish center where excellent science profits from state-of-the-art technologies and services provided by core facilities. To this end, the IIMCB is establishing institutional support for the development of current and the creation of new core facilities, wherein the Core Facility Strategy & Business Manager will have a significant role. Currently, there are 6 units headed by expert scientists: Biophysics and Bioanalytics, Genome Engineering, Microscopy and Cytometry, Animal Housing Facility, Preclinical Drug Development, and Zebrafish Core Facility. By 2025 our portfolio of core facilities will heavily expand with advanced research technologies critical to support research at IIMCB, with a focus on Genomics and Single-Cell Sequencing; Proteomics, Protein Isolation and Analysis; Cellular Models, Organoids and Cell Banking; Bioinformatics and Computational Biology.

The Core Facility Strategy & Business Manager will be one of the key people in core facility development as they will be responsible for setting-up and expanding effective in-house services and expertise, agreements with external academics, and propose profitable models for business cooperation. To build on the expertise of our strategic partner, the candidate will receive a 30-month training-in-residence at the VIB core facilities sites in Belgium.

Key responsibilities:

  • Set-up a unified program for the existing core facilities and align the mission of the program with the mission of the institute.
  • Building the strategy for organizational framework for core facility operations
  • Facilitating development and/or implementation of newest technologies to ensure that IIMCB remains at the forefront of research
  • Development and implementation of business plans for internal and external services
  • Managing service portfolio in cooperation with core facility heads, including market search, pricing strategies, stakeholders, management etc.
  • Facilitating dialogue and cooperation between academia (internal/external) and industry to foster collaboration and knowledge exchange
  • Creating win-win relationships with various (inter)national stakeholders
  • Developing policies and procedures for core facilities
  • Planning opportunities for future development

Necessary qualifications:

  • PhD or Master in life sciences, or equivalent by experience
  • Deep understanding of modern research technologies in life sciences/biomedical sciences
  • Experience in life sciences research and technology
  • Experience working in a business-oriented environment is an asset
  • Innovative and technology-oriented thinking
  • Effective communication & networking skills, including building and maintaining relationships
  • Strong organizational skills and flexibility
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Fluency in oral and written Polish and English
  • Willingness to relocate and travel between Poland and Belgium

The IIMCB offers:

  • Employment contract with the IIMCB and secondment for 30-month training-in-residence at VIB, Belgium
  • Full-time salary in the range of 12 000 – 14 000 PLN gross per month, including the period of secondment, and an additional allowance for the secondment period of 10 400 PLN gross per month
  • Full-time salary is complemented by an additional 13th salary* plus an annual bonus

*13th salary is calculated as 8.5% of the gross salary received in a given calendar year (excluding sick pay) under the condition of having worked a minimum of 6 months in a given year.
