Parnas Award for Prof. Andrzej Dziembowski’s Team

This year’s Jakub Karol Parnas Award – the highest honor bestowed by the Polish Biochemical Society – has been granted to a team of researchers from the IIMCB, led by Prof. Andrzej Dziembowski. The award recognizes their work uncovering the molecular mechanisms underlying infertility.

2025 Parnas Award

The award committee, chaired by Prof. Andrzej Legocki, recognized the publication "TENT5-mediated polyadenylation of mRNAs encoding secreted proteins is essential for gametogenesis in mice", published in Nature Communications. As stated in the official announcement by the Polish Biochemical Society, “the award confirms the highest standard of scientific research conducted in Poland.”

The study’s authors – researchers from IIMCB: Michał Brouze, Agnieszka Czarnocka-Cieciura, Olga Gewartowska, Monika Kusio-Kobiałka, Kamil Jachacy, Marcin Szpila, Bartosz Tarkowski, Jakub Gruchota, Paweł Krawczyk, Seweryn Mroczek, Ewa Borsuk, and Prof. Andrzej Dziembowski (corresponding author) – significantly advanced our understanding of the molecular basis of fertility and infertility. The findings also formed the foundation of Dr. Michał Brouze’s doctoral dissertation, supervised by Prof. Dziembowski. The defense, held on February 21, 2025, marked the first PhD examination in IIMCB’s history.

A tradition of the Parnas Award, established in 1962, is that the corresponding author gives the Parnas Lecture. This year, Prof. Andrzej Dziembowski will deliver it at the 6th Life Sciences Congress BIO2025, held on 17–20 September in Poznań, Poland.
