invites applications for the position of Bioinformatics Core Facility Head
Are you passionate about bioinformatics and big data analysis for biomedical applications? Are you interested in developing a career in a core facility (CF) of an academic research institute?
The IIMCB hosts a vibrant, multinational community of scientists and is well-connected internationally as exemplified by the composition of the IIMCB's International Advisory Board and the IIMCB's membership in EU-LIFE, an alliance of 15 top European research institutions. The IIMCB is on its way to unprecedented scientific and institutional growth, in part supported by the RACE project entitled: “RNA and Cell Biology - from Fundamental Research to Therapies” funded in the Teaming for Excellence programme under Horizon Europe. Through planned expansion to eventually 20 research groups involved in innovative translational projects in RNA biology and cell biology, we aim to become a unique Polish center where excellent science profits from state-of-the-art technologies and services provided by core facilities (CF). To this end, the IIMCB is establishing institutional support for the development of current and the creation of new core facilities.
Among the new core facilities, we will develop a Bioinformatics Core Facility to support IIMCB Research Laboratories and other Core Facilities with computational tools.
Key responsibilities:
- Management of a new core facility, including team members
- Expert analysis of high-throughput data together with team members (initially genomics and transcriptomics, in the future also proteomics and microscopy data)
- Implementation of software, development of methodologies data resources for high-throughput data analysis
- Evaluation and delivery of bioinformatics solutions, including software, databases, protocols and methods for all bioinformatics analyses in the institute
- Collaboration with other Core Facilities
- Training of young scientists at IIMCB
- Participation in the development of data storage resources together with the IT Unit
- Continued professional development by maintaining awareness of progress in the bioinformatics
Necessary qualifications:
- PhD in life or computer sciences, or equivalent by experience
- Demonstrated scientific achievements or applications in bioinformatics (including, but not limited to, analysis of NGS data, Big Data bioinformatics platform development, multi-omics data integration, machine learning)
- Experience in programming (especially Python and R)
- Experience with version control software and software repositories (e.g., github)
- Experience with HPC, and work with CPU and GPU clusters
- Strong organizational skills
- Effective communication & networking skills, including building and maintaining relationships
- Fluency in oral and written English and Polish
The IIMCB offers:
- Employment contract with the IIMCB
- Full-time salary in the range of 11 000 – 13 000 PLN gross per month
- Full-time salary is complemented by an additional 13th salary* plus an annual bonus
