PhD Student position in the Laboratory of Cellular Genomics

The Laboratory of Cellular Genomics  https://olab.com.pl/  https://shorturl.at/JNT69 at the International Institute of Molecular and Cell Biology (IIMCB), Warsaw headed by Dr Aleksandra Kołodziejczyk is looking for PhD student.

You will join the project entitled “The role of gut-liver axis in Amanita species mushroom poisoning” carried out as the SONATA grant (2022/47/D/NZ5/03438) of the National Science Centre.

Aim of the project: The goals of this study are: (1) test for a potential role of microbiota in poisoning, (2) to find bacteria degrading α-amanitin and (3) to characterise mechanisms of cellular responses to Amanita phalloides poisoning in the liver. To address these questions, we will study human tissue explants, and use in vitro and in vivo models of disease. In this project you will learn – advanced genomics (single cell RNAseq, metagenomics), mammalian cell cultures, mouse models of liver failure, and advanced microbiological techniques such as anaerobic bacteria culturing.

As a PhD student you will be responsible for performing experiments, analyzing data, collaborating with other team members, preforming literature search, participating in lab meetings, participating in national and international conferences as well as writing thesis and publications.

Candidates will be selected according to the procedure complying the rules for granting scholarships for young scientists in research projects funded by the National Science Centre (NCN Council Resolution No. 25/2019 dated March 14, 2019 r.) and the procedure complying with the rules of the European Charter for Researchers and the Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers as a part of HR Excellence in Research strategy https://bit.ly/3U0dydP

  • Prior experience in following techniques will be an advantage (but not prerequisite):
  1. sequencing libraries generation (Illumina, RNAseq, single cell genomics, metagenomics)
  2. cell culture (cell lines, organoids, CRISPR-based cell line modification techniques)
  3. microbiology (culturing bacterial isolates, phenotyping, working anaerobically)
  4. working with mice
  5. FACS, cell sorting
  • This is a mainly ‘wet-lab’ position, however experience in sequencing data analysis will be a plus
