Research Specialist position in the Laboratory of Protein Metabolism

Laboratory of Protein Metabolism https://bit.ly/3gv0tLU at the International Institute for Molecular and Cell Biology (IIMCB), Warsaw, headed by Dr Wojciech Pokrzywa, seeks a motivated Research Specialist to join a project that aims to dissect the mechanisms underlying non-lysine ubiquitination. The position is funded by National Science Centre under the SONATA-BIS project no. 2021/42/E/NZ1/00190 entitled: “Adaptation of Proteins to Evade Premature Degradation by the Ubiquitin-Proteasome System”.

The ideal candidate should be able to pursue challenging tasks and achieve objectives and collaborate with other researchers. As a Research Specialist: you will be responsible for laboratory support, including culture and basic mammalian cell experiments, molecular biology experiments, and maintenance of C. elegans:

  • Maintain a mammalian cell culture;
  • Perform cell-based assays using spectrophotometric, fluorescent, and microscopic methods, transfection, screen for mycoplasma;
  • Performing routine cell banking and cell line maintenance to support cell-based bioassays;
  • Prepare reagents (including growth media);
  • Conducting molecular biology experiments;
  • Maintain C. elegans breeding;
  • Plan and document experiments;
  • Contribute to data analyses;
  • Perform all other related duties as assigned

Requirements for the candidate:

  • Holds BSc or MSc degree in biochemistry, biology, pharmacology, chemistry, or related discipline;
  • Has previous lab experience in a biological laboratory;
  • Experience preparing reagents and dilutions;
  • Ability to work effectively and productively in a team-oriented environment while maintaining a strong sense of accountability and integrity ;
  • Creative problem-solving skills and the ability to exercise sound and accurate judgment in making timely decisions;
  • Good planning, organizational, computer, written, and verbal communication skills;
  • Previous experience performing molecular biology, elegans, or cellular assays, including immunohistochemistry, Western blot, PCR, and cell culture is a plus;
  • Computer skills, including data management;
  • A demonstrated proficiency in keeping detailed notes, files and records organized;
  • A diligent work ethic.

We offer:

  • Full employment contract initially for 12 months with a possible extension to 60 months
  • Gross monthly salary about 5200 PLN (* Additional bonuses such as the 13th salary after working for the Institute for six months in a given calendar year, or a Christmas bonus may supplement this salary), the final monthly gross salary will be calculated individually during the employment process, taking into account the length of service
