The IIMCB hosts a vibrant, multinational community of scientists and is well-connected internationally as exemplified by the composition of the IIMCB's International Advisory Board and the IIMCB's membership in EU-LIFE, an alliance of 15 top European research institutions. The IIMCB is on its way to unprecedented scientific and institutional growth, in part supported by the RACE project entitled: “RNA and Cell Biology - from Fundamental Research to Therapies” funded in the Teaming for Excellence program under Horizon Europe. Through planned expansion to eventually 20 research groups involved in innovative translational projects in RNA biology and cell biology, we aim to become a unique Polish center where excellent science profits from state-of-the-art technologies and services provided by core facilities (CF).
To this end, the IIMCB is establishing institutional support for the development of current and the creation of new core facilities, wherein the CF Technology Manager will have a significant role. Currently, there are 6 units headed by expert scientists: Biophysics and Bioanalytics, Genome Engineering, Microscopy, Animal Housing Facility, Preclinical Drug Development, and Zebrafish Core Facility. By 2025 our portfolio of CF will heavily expand with advanced technologies critical to support research at IIMCB, with a focus on Genomics, Mass Spectrometry, Cellular Models and Organoids, and Bioinformatics. CF Technology Manager will contribute to the long-term development of all core facilities at IIMCB in close cooperation with Flanders Institute for Biotechnology (VIB) in Belgium. Therefore, the successful candidate will receive an extended training-in-residence at the VIB core facilities sites in Belgium, at the initial stage of employment.
Key responsibilities:
- Cooperating with IIMCB leadership and CF heads in building a strategy and an organizational framework for core facility operations
- Facilitating development and/or implementation of newest technologies to ensure that IIMCB remains at the forefront of research
- Facilitating dialogue and cooperation between academia and industry to foster collaboration and knowledge exchange
- Developing policies and procedures for core facilities
- Identifying opportunities for future development of core facilities
- Participating in training-in-residence program at VIB core facilities in VIB, transfer knowledge and expertise to core facilities in IIMCB
Necessary qualifications:
- PhD in life sciences, or equivalent by experience
- Deep understanding of modern research technologies in life sciences/biomedical sciences
- Innovative and technology-oriented thinking
- Experience as (project) manager and team leader
- Project & financial management skills
- Organizational skills
- Effective communication & networking skills, including building and maintaining relationships
- Decision-making ability
- Ability to negotiate
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Self-motivated and a good team player
- Fluency in oral and written English and Polish
- Willingness to relocate and travel between Poland and Belgium
- Work experience in a multi-stakeholder environment will be an asset
The IIMCB offers:
- Employment contract with the IIMCB and secondment for long term training-in-residence at VIB, Belgium
- Full-time salary in the range of 9000 – 11 000 PLN gross per month, including the period of secondment, and an additional allowance for the secondment period of 10 400 PLN gross per month
- Full-time salary is complemented by an additional 13th salary* plus an annual bonus

*13th salary is calculated as 8.5% of the gross salary received in a given calendar year (excluding sick pay) under the condition of having worked a minimum of 6 months in a given year.
