The President of the Republic of Poland Andrzej Duda awarded Gracjan Michlewski, Head of the Laboratory of RNA-Protein Interactions - Dioscuri Centre with the professor degree of exact and natural sciences in the discipline of biological sciences.

Gracjan Michlewski obtained his PhD and Habilitation from the Institute of Bioorganic Chemistry, Polish Academy of Sciences in Poznan, Poland. He carried out his postdoctoral research in the Human Genetics Unit, Medical Research Council in Edinburgh, UK. In 2011, Gracjan established his laboratory at The Wellcome Trust Centre for Cell Biology, the University of Edinburgh with the Medical Research Council Career Development Award. Since January 2021 Gracjan Michlewski leads the Dioscuri Centre for RNA-Protein Interactions in Human Health and Disease at IIMCB, initiated by the Max Planck Society (MPG), managed jointly with the National Science Centre in Poland and mutually funded by the Polish Ministry of Education and Science (MEiN) and the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). Prof. Michlewski is also a laureate of the Polish Returns Programme funded by the Polish National Agency for Academic Exchange.

Prof. Michlewski’s main research interests are associated with regulation of gene expression, non-coding RNAs in neurological disorders and innate immune response to RNA viruses.
