On June 7, 2016 Prof. Agnieszka Chacińska, Head of the IIMCB Laboratory of Mitochondrial Biogenesis and Prof. Peter Rehling, Head of the Department of Cellular Biochemistry of the University Medical Centre in Göttingen have been distinguished with the Nicolaus Copernicus Polish-German Research Award. The winners have been recognized for conducting joint research leading to the discovery of key mechanisms of mitochondrial biogenesis.

The award is given jointly by the Foundation for Polish Science (FNP) and the German Research Foundation (DFG), the German equivalent of the National Science Centre. It is given since 2006 to honour scientists from Poland and Germany who have cooperated to achieve distinguished research accomplishment. A total of 28 applications were considered in this year’s competition.
