The workshop for Polish PCD (primary ciliary dyskinesia) patients took place at the IIMCB on September 12-13th. The main goal of the event was to present the state-of-the-art information on ciliary disorders to PCD patients and their families. At the first day 90 persons participated in eight seminars presented by M. Witt and E. Ziętkiewicz from the Institute of Human Genetics Polish Academy of Sciences and IIMCB; H. Mazurek, A. Pogorzelski, B. Pustułka and A. Leżański from Institute of Tuberculosis and Lung Diseases in Rabka-Zdrój.
The second day of the workshop was primarily oriented at PCD patients and their relatives and practical approach to PCD was presented. The participants received training in bronchotherapy, physiotherapy and epidemiology.
An important aspect of the event was a general meeting of members of a society for PCD patients called ‘Polskie Towarzystwo Dyskinezy Rzęsek’ (Polish Ciliary Dyskinesia Society). Members of the Society elected a new Board of Directors, where the presidency of Dr. Andrzej Pogorzelski from the Institute of Tuberculosis and Lung Diseases in Rabka-Zdrój was extended for a next term. The new board established main goals for its activity in upcoming year.
