The project entitled ‘’Long-term, prospective study evaluating clinical and molecular biomarkers of epileptogenesis in a genetic model of epilepsy – tuberous sclerosis complex’’ is financed by the European Commission within the FP7 programme. EPISTOP is coordinated by Prof. Sergiusz Jóźwiak, Head of Department of Neurology and Epileptology in the Children’s Memorial Health Institute, Warsaw, Poland. The International Institute of Molecular and Cell Biology as one of partners is represented by Dr. Jacek Jaworski, Head of Laboratory of Molecular and Cellular Neurobiology.[nbsp] IIMCB will be carrying out gene and protein expression profiling verification by means of RT-PCR and Westem blot, respectively. IIMCB will also serve as a central laboratory for the project, receiving, dividing, storing and sending the samples for further analyses.

The aim of EPISTOP is to examine the risk factors and biomarkers of epilepsy and to identify possible new therapeutic targets to block or otherwise modify epileptogenesis in humans. EPISTOP will be carried out by a consortium of 14 partners from 9 countries (Poland, Germany, Italy, France, Czech Republic, Netherlands, Belgium, Austria and USA).
