The COMBIOM Initial Scientific Meeting took place in Kiev, Ukraine, on May, 16th-17th. Organized by IMBG, project’s coordinator, it involved COMBIOM participants from partnering bodies: Institute Gustave Roussy, Paris, France and International Institute of Molecular and Cell Biology. Our institute’s delegation involved: Jacek Kuźnicki, IMBG Advisory Board member and WP2 Leader; Marta Miączyńska, Jacek Jaworski, Matthias Bochtler and Roman Szczepanowski, WP1 Twinning partners; Dorota Libiszowska and Marcin Ogonowski, project’s managers.

The core event of the meeting was a Scientific Conference during which the twinning partners gave scientific lectures. From IIMCB part, the talks were given by Marta Miączyńska, Jacek Jaworski and Matthias Bochtler. The Conference also hosted representatives of the First Secretary Mission of Ukraine to EU and the Ukrainian National Contact Point for the EU Framework Programmes. The event was open to the public which counted over one hundred participants within which Ukrainian scientists, representatives of industry and media. [nbsp][nbsp]

Next to the Conference, two satellite initial meetings were organized:

- IMBG Advisory Board Meeting to support and advice IMBG on development of its biomedical research priorities and strategy. The Advisory Board consists of well-recognized international experts, senior researchers from leading EU scientific entities. Jacek Kuznicki is the Advisory Board member from IIMCB.

- Project Management Committee meeting focused on the organization and planning of COMBIOM activities, especially in the first project’s year (IIMCB participants: Jacek Kuznicki, Dorota Libiszowska, Marcin Ogonowski)

IIMCB project participants visited IMBG and had a chance to discuss with their twinning partners future collaborations and plan scientific exchanges for the first project year. The visit was also an occasion for the project managers to plan first managerial and complementary skills training. They will take place at IIMCB in autumn.
