During the meeting, a new support program for young Ukrainian pre-doctoral researchers, implemented within Norwegian and EEA funds, was announced. The continuation of a special program for Ukrainian scientists with doctoral degrees, previously implemented on behalf of the MEiN was also confirmed during the meeting. For both programs, applying Ukrainian scientists will submit a plan for integration with Polish scientific community and a description of the benefits to Ukrainian science resulting from their experience.
Thanks to the international scientific cooperation programs, nearly 100 Ukrainian researchers have already found employment in Polish research and academic centers. Within the first days of the outbreak of war in Ukraine, the International Institute of Molecular and Cellular Biology in Warsaw joined the domestic and international programs enabling Ukrainian scientists to continue their research in Poland.
"We should look at the bigger picture, think about the future, about what will happen after the war. Our programs should support science in Ukraine, not only keeping Ukrainian researchers in Poland. I believe that together we will build a good future," - Prof. Jacek Kuznicki, Chairman of the NCN Council, concluded his speech with these words.
Ukraine was represented by Dr. Olga Polotska, Executive Director of the National Research Foundation of Ukraine. The event was held under the honorary patronage of the President of the Republic of Poland, Andrzej Duda.
