MSc student position in Laboratory of Neurodegeneration

The Laboratory of Neurodegeneration at the International Institute of Molecular and Cell Biology (IIMCB), Warsaw, headed by Prof. Jacek Kuźnicki: Research - IIMCB, is seeking a student. 

You will join the project entitled “Linking abnormal Ca2+ signaling and the unfolded protein response with Huntington’s disease pathology in both YAC128 mouse model and iPSC-derived neurons from HD patients”, which is carried out as the OPUS (2019/33/B/NZ3/02889) grant of the Polish National Science Centre, under the supervision of Magdalena Czeredys, PhD. The aim of the project is to identify pathways involved in the neurodegeneration in Huntington's disease models.

A student you will be involved in culturing and calcium measurement in iPSC-derived cells from HD patients and controls.

Requirements from master student:

  •  1st degree in biology, biochemistry or related field obtained
  • the candidate must be formally enlisted in MSc studies in Poland
  • student’s employment is also possible up to 6 months after the end of student status
  • basic knowledge of cell and molecular biology
  • practical experience of cell culture
  • basic experience in laboratory work
  • has scientific achievements
  • good knowledge of English
  • interest in neurobiology research, motivation and passion for experimental work
  • willingness to learn and take new challenges, analytical thinking, availability
  • excellent interpersonal skills
  • research experience abroad will be a plus
  • practical knowledge on iPSC-derived models and prior experience in microscopy techniques will be an advantage but is not essential

We offer:

  • Fellowship 1080 PLN for a period of 5 months.
  • Participation in lab meetings and institutional seminars, institutional retreats, scientific training, support from peers, and academic mentoring.
  • Ability to learn to work with models derived from iPSC.
  • Exposure to cutting-edge techniques available at the IIMCB.
  • Work in international environment.
  • Training in a project prior to likely doctoral studies
