We had the pleasure of hosting representatives from the European Molecular Biology Organization EMBO - excellence in life sciences: Prof. Fiona Watt – EMBO Director; Dr. Karin Dumstrei – Head of the EMBO Fellowship Programme; Marina Giampietro – Head of Communications. The visit provided an excellent opportunity to present the activities of our Institute and to engage in discussions on the future directions of EMBO, including: supporting early-career researchers and career development pathways; promoting mobility across European research institutions; strengthening collaboration networks within scientific projects; adapting EMBO programmes to evolving challenges in the European research landscape. We are proud that 5 out of 18 EMBO Members from Poland work at IIMCB, highlighting our strong presence in the European scientific community.
The International Advisory Board, composed of world-leading scientists, gathered in Warsaw to boost IIMCB’s development and scientific growth. Over three intensive days, the Committee interviewed candidates for the junior lab leader position, evaluated our research, met with IIMCB’s community, and shared valuable insights and recommendations to help drive our progress.
We are also proud to share that, following Marta Miączyńska’s comprehensive report, the RACE and RACE-PRIME projects were positively evaluated by the Board. Both initiatives are progressing efficiently, with well-justified adjustments ensuring that the set objectives will be achieved without affecting IIMCB’s strategic vision.
On March 18–19, 2025, IIMCB Grants Office and Scientific Coordination Unit teams hosted a training session titled “How can Generative AI help in our daily tasks?”. The workshop was organized as part of RACE WP5. It was delivered by the Strategy and Funding team from the Centre for Genomic Regulation (CRG) - David Brena, PhD and Jonas Krebs, PhD, The trainers shared their experience as advanced users of Generative AI tools. The goal of the training was to demonstrate how tools such as Microsoft Copilot and ChatGPT can support everyday tasks in research institutions.
Paweł Botwina, Innovation Specialist at the IIMCB's Technology Transfer Office has completed a one-year training program at Flanders Institute of Biotechnology (VIB) in Belgium. As part of its collaboration within the RACE project, VIB supports the development of the Technology Transfer Office, modern core facilities, and science management. Paweł’s experience gained at VIB will be invaluable in strengthening innovation and advancing technology transfer at IIMCB.
